Advice from Dad...your private information online

First try this:  Go to http://www.spokeo.com/ and enter your name.  My guess is you'll see a LOT of information about you..some new, some old, but it will be there.  Here's what you can do about it.  Go here and submit a request to have them remove your listing (easy): http://www.spokeo.com/privacy  You'll have to click a link in an email they send you to complete the process.   One personal information aggrigator site down, hundreds to go!  Here's the advice from dad:  If you don't want to share information with the entire world, don't put it on any web site....that said, no need to be paranoid.  Your address & phone can probably be found in any phone book, or public government records, etc.  The price of your house can be found on Zillow.  A picture of your house can be found on Google. (It shows your mom living in our Duplex. :-) You'll never get rid of all information about you from the web.  Just do what you can to keep your REALLY private info private.

Looks like I'm spared. They couldn't find any "Erica Groneman"s out there. (Which surprises me, since I know there is another one in Spanish Fork!)

Oh sure my info comes up, and even though the address, phone number and (sadly) home ownership/value is wrong, I still don't see the big deal if it were right. I don't care if people see my picture online -- they can see me as I walk down the sidewalk. They can see the house driving down the public street. They can even see my license plate number if it's parked in the driveway or a parking lot. And even though my facebook settings don't allow you to see much of my account publicly, I still don't post anything on there or on blogs, etc. that I necessarily care if anyone out there does or does not see.

Kind of a cool look-up website though. I like it.

That's the RIGHT attitude Bretsker. You don't post stuff you don't want completely public anywhere.

I'd like to post right here right now that I'm a millionaire and I'm going on vacation and leaving my doors unlocked this weekend.
Oh, and my address is: 12345 wrong address way. But I guess you didn't need that since it's already on that spiffy website.

Only old addresses for me, too. Ditto to what Bert said. I've never been cool enough to worry about stalkers.
