The good news is that Cambrie won't have this problem...well, maybe she will!
So Cambrie called again this morning with another update. She spent the night in the hospital, of course. She told me that her blood sugar was at 50 (normal is 80-120), and that was after the 2 bags of glucose solution they had given her the day before at Kaiser. Her Potassium was also low and she was experiencing chest pain yesterday and last night, as the heart needs potassium to function. They spent the night draining one after another bags of different stuff she needed, and she finally got to sleep at 4:30 am. Then they came in and woke her up at 5 am. Short sleep/long night, but she is in great spirits, because they are giving her the help she needs. Her Dr is listening to what Cambrie is telling her happened before, and the stuff that Cambrie had bad experiences with, they are going to avoid, but they will try the drugs that were tried before and didn't work "because every pregnancy is different" and they might possibly work this time. But the Dr did say that because of the things that Cambrie had adverse reactions to (Phenergan and Steroids) are not an option to try, that it may be a short trip to TPN.
One interesting thing: with Cambries first pregnancy once they found that nothing worked for her, they had wanted to put in a feeding tube as a first option, but Cambrie had wanted to go with TPN, so they did. This time, Cambrie had decided to go with a feeding tube instead, but the Dr would rather do TPN. The Dr says that a nasal feeding tube isn't an option: If they decide to do a feeding tube, they will put one surgically into the intestine. Feeding tubes cost MUCH less, but whatever! As long as Cambrie and her baby gets fed, I am happy.
They are going to have RS/Breanna/Steve watching over Kiera. Steve gets out of school at noon today, and BJ is going to go over and help watch her this afternoon (I presume because Steve needs to study). So now you know.
Cambries hospital # is 909 558 4000 Rm 3112. She is in the post partum unit. Since she only got 1/2 hour sleep last night, I think we better not overwhelm her with calls today.
I am very grateful to the Lord for connecting Cambrie with a Dr, who, in spite of not having her previous history to read , is taking Cambries problems seriously (her Keytones were so high again at yesterdays appointment, that they had her go give them another urine sample to make sure that the result was correct) and are giving her the immediate help she needs so that she doesn't have to go through the nightmare she endured last time again. WHAT A GREAT BLESSING TO our sweet Cambrie!
