I have to post... I can't take the unbecoming ute on my screen anymore.

Erica and I are concerned about food storage, and we've been looking at using any money from the IRS on food storage. Prices on many foundation foods are going up. Many places in Utah that used to sell wheat no longer do - they're keeping it. For example, the Church used to sell wheat, but now they buy it and keep it all. Mom said that she noticed in Maceys that the price of Wheat is significantly more than the same amount of flour.

A new fungus recently started attacking wheat in Africa and the Middle East. Some people fear that it will come over here soon, although government officials in several countries are discounting that it will affect them.

Wheat prices have doubled recently, and we've heard rumors that they'll double again within two weeks. With our economy likely headed into a recession, if you can get your food storage stock up, that would probably be good.

what does that have to do with the price of rice in china? j/k

Yes, food storage would be a good idea. I have NO IDEA where to buy wheat in california.

Do you have an LDS Cannery? If so, that is your best option. They have one in Albuquerque, so they should in California too. Check with your bishop, or go to your phone book to look it up. I called the Lindon Cannery this morning and they have white wheat and are selling it for $6.25 per 25 lbs, which is fabulous, as Macey's is selling it for $35.00 for 50 lbs. But you can only get 4 25 lb bags per person at the cannery, and when they are out, the price will go up.

The price of wheat here is expected to double this week, I was told. If I were you kids, I would stack it as they do wheat and sugar on pallets, and cover it with a tablecloth in your bedrooms, or put it under the bed, BUT PLEASE! TAKE THE $ THAT CAME FROM YOUR $ TREES, AND BUY FOOD STORAGE NOW!
Yes, I realize that you single kids can't do that in apts, but please, at least have a 72 hour emergency kits in your car trunk, and do save some water for emergencies for a few days.

So what is your source of information that the Church is buying wheat but no longer selling it?

Erica's Sister buys wheat pretty frequently, and she told us.

Ann-Marie's source was her R.S. Pres, so take that for what it's worth. But I do know that Lehi Roller Mills is out of white wheat (they still have red), and some distributors of wheat are holding back the supply (which forces the price to go up--aren't we thankful for that...).
