What is this world coming to?

Most of you are probably aware of the Pirate attacks off the coast of Somalia for the past few years. A U.S. based cargo ship was recently attacked, and the captain is being held hostage. The U.S. Navy rushed to the scene, and Secretary of State Clinton called "for world action" against the Pirates.

So presumably our Navy hasn't gone out for a coffee break or something, and they're still watching the pirates. Watching? Where are they when the hostage escapes but is re-captured by the pirates??? If the Navy is there when he escapes, and our government is calling for action, shouldn't our Navy be able to sink the pirate vessel, or at least place themselves between the pirates and the escaped hostage???

Meanwhile, the french (yes, the FRENCH) mount a rescue attempt against other Somali pirates that have captured a French yacht, and succeed in rescuing four people, including a child. One hostage died during the rescue... but still... the FRENCH?

It's not a contest, but the U.S. is being out-gutsed by the French. Thank you, fearless leader Obama.

I'm not so quick to judge....yea, it seems like our folks should have been able to save him once he escaped, but I don't know the details...maybe he just jumped overboard and they pulled him right back in. I wish they would give more details in the news. I can see reason for ongoing negotiations as long as we're telling them "you hurt him, you die a slow and painful death" What's even more concerning to me is that the UN can't even agree to verbally reprimand North Korea. UN....a waste of a lot of world resources IMHO.

If the military waits until the other pirate ships show up with more hostages, then we will be in a terrible position to negotiate and they could get away scott free. I think it's time to do something.
